Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)
An LPA is a very important legal document that comes in two forms. A Property and Affairs LPA allows you to nominate one or more trusted people such as your spouse or partner or other family members to look after your financial affairs should you become incapable of doing so in the future. A Personal Welfare LPA is similar but allows you to nominate others you trust to decide your personal care and treatment if you are unable to make these choices for yourself.
With modern medical science we can often survive debilitating events or diseases that effect our mental or physical capacity preventing us from carrying on with our lives as before.
Without a Property & Affairs LPA, if you become mentally incapable, you will not be able to perform basic tasks such as banking, paying bills or selling your home. For your partner this can be more stressful than if you had actually passed away.
At Trinity most of our clients recognise the importance of an LPA to ensure they are protected during their lifetime. Our consultants can explain its benefits in more detail when they meet you.
