A properly signed Will is a legal document that ensures your possessions are left to those you wish.
Most people assume their belongings will pass to their wife and children automatically if they die without leaving a Will. This is not necessarily the case. The courts will decide based on set rules and this can often take years to sort out and prove very costly. With a proper Will matters are usually sorted out within a couple of months.
A Will can be a very simple document and some people try to make their own. This can be all right but statistically only half of these DIY Wills work as expected so you need to be careful - there is no second chance.
A Will is also a very good place to nominate guardians for your children rather than letting social services decide what happens if both parents are unable to look after them.
